Polkura

POLKURA is a wine growing project, started in 2002 by the Muñoz and Bruchfeld families, with the purpose of making an exceptional wine, based onthe exciting Syrah grape variety. Marchigue, the western end of the ColchaguaValley in Chile was chosen as the ideal site, for it has shown enormous potential to produce this varietal.

Polkura Syrah

Polkura Malbec

At the beginning of the summer in 2008, the Polkura Hill suffered a bush fire, threatening the vineyard and getting very close to the area where the Malbec is planted. Thanks to several neighbors, a disaster was avoided. Although a Malbec component has always been used in previous years for the Polkura Syrah blend, after this event this great Malbec deserved to be bottled on its own.

Deep inky purple color. Very intensely perfumed aromatics of violets coupled with figs and herbs. On the palate the wine is full bodied and has very structured tannins. Good balance between tannin and acidity. This wine is complex and has a long lasting finish.

 Polkura Syrah Block G+I

In the Polkura Vineyard, the most interesting sites are definitely those oriented toward the south, only indirectly facing the sun. This is why these sites have less hours of sunshine and therefore lower heat accumulation, resulting in much more elegant wines. Already during vintage 2006 big differences in fruit flavor were noticed within these blocks. After one year of trials, the decision was made, to bottle the wines produced from blocks G and I separately.

Polkura Block G+I contains 2% Viognier, which gives the blend perfume and complexity. Since tannins in this wine are very powerful, the blend was aged in French oak barrels for 20 months, 65% of which were new casks. Before being released, the wine was bottle aged for 6 months.

Deep intense purple color. On the nose, herbs and aniseed coupled with black fruit and pepper appear. It is a full bodied wine on the palate. Its acidity is very well balanced with powerful tannins. There are a large amount of flavors that give complexity to this wine. It has great length with a soft finish.
